Shape My City - inaugural workshop!

On 6 March the Architecture Centre welcomed its Shape My City participants to their first workshop. The group is made up of 13 young people from different neighbourhoods across the city. Session one was all about the young people getting to know each other and establishing what they wanted to get out of being involved in the #shapemycity project.

After doing some mind mapping about architecture, the group were inspired by Sally Daniels from UWE's Architecture and Planning Department, to particpate in a fun masterplanning activity involving giant lego! The young people worked in teams, supported by architecture students from UWE.

Towards the end of the session the young people got to 'hot seat' some of the visiting professionals, who included Elena Marco (Head of Architecture and Planning at UWE), Patrick Fransen (Architect, Herman Hertzberger), Elliot Ballam (BDP) and Jessica Booth (Soil Association). A popular question (which will be asked of all visiting professionals in future #shapemycity workshops) was: If you could give one piece of advice to your 16 year old self (knowing what you know now), what would it be? We will be sharing some of the responses to this question in a future blog post!

The Architecture Centre is thrilled to have such a fantastic group of young people involved with #shapemycity and is really looking forward the next session with them at the end of the month.
